Entrepreneur challenge
Six months before Covid-19 took over the headlines, Risk Alive® made the move to the cloud to store their nearly 25 years’ worth of data and business records.
The move was spurred by hardships the company suffered over the last few years, including floods, a fire and a major power outage in its home city of Calgary. This preparation was key in quickly adapting to the current crisis, as employees didn’t skip a beat once they were forced to work from home.
The reality for their clients was different. Risk Alive® runs analytics on data sets generated from risk assessment services. Most of these services are done in-person, examining critical threats and safeguards with operations and engineering teams around a boardroom table. Now that this was no longer possible, they decided to bring their remote culture to their clients, offering the same services virtually. At first, it posed a challenge for clients who either weren’t used to working virtually or who didn’t have the proper infrastructure. But over time, they managed to adapt and embrace virtual collaboration.
Seeing an opportunity, the company put its virtual offer out to the market and managed to add new clients to its roster, right in the middle of the crisis. They even signed a partnership with DuPont, the world's largest chemical company in terms of sales, who is using their technology with its own clients, and have hired three new employees to help tackle the new demand.
“Our technology can be used around the world by any high hazard facilities, especially given the current context,” says President Tom Labodi. “While the world is hitting pause, we’re hitting fast forward."
