Entrepreneur challenge
Foothills Creamery had to react quickly to keep producing dairy products and ensure social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Company president Cathy Sanders was able to get as many of her employees as possible to work from home to make more space for plant workers, maintenance, shippers and drivers to stay two metres apart.
“Removing a group of us from the office allows them to do their duties and move around freely and minimize the number of people in the space,” she says.
“We’re probably kind of lucky in the plant because the operation is spread out. Where the product is being received, people aren’t in close proximity. For the most part, they can get the space they need.”
For those working at home, some adjustment was needed in the first two weeks, but Sanders says the team is communicating effectively with video conferencing and online meetings.
With the company’s platform, customers could already place their orders online. Sanders notes that Foothills Creamery will have plenty of ice cream for the summer.
