BDC named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for the 10th year
Montreal, March 6, 2020—BDC, Canada’s bank for entrepreneurs, is proud to be listed among Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2020. BDC accepted the award during Mediacorp Canada’s official awards reception, held today in Toronto.
This is the 10th time BDC is awarded this distinction, which coincides with a shift from the Bank’s diversity strategy, from awareness initiatives to barrier identification. “At BDC, we understand the value of a diverse and inclusive culture, and the ways it benefits not only our employees, but also the 60,000 entrepreneurs we serve every day,” said Marie-Chantal Lamothe, Chief Human Resources Officer at BDC. “As employer, it is important to keep addressing issues related to inclusiveness and identify, and remove systemic barriers.”
This year, BDC had leaders and employees participate in a training session to expose them to their unconscious biases and eliminate unintentional discriminatory behaviours. The Bank also participated in the Women in Governance Parity Certification to ensure it creates an environment truly inclusive for all genders. “Being recognized once again as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers confirms we are on the right path and that we should continue to take the steps towards a more diverse and inclusive work environment,” said Ellen Austin, Director of Diversity and Inclusion. “The goal is to see people holistically celebrate and leverage the multiple voices they bring.”
The Diversity Award, organized by Mediacorp Canada, recognizes employers with exemplary diversity initiatives for women, members of visible minorities, people with disabilities, Indigenous people and LGBT people.
