Shahir Guindi joined the BDC Board of Directors in December 2012.
Mr. Guindi is a Montreal lawyer with an extensive background in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and private equity, and venture capital investments and fund formation, including in the technology and life science sectors. He has significant experience in cross-border and international transactions for both Canadian and international clients.
He is currently national Co-Chair of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and a member of the firm’s partnership board. He sits on the board of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal. He also sits on the boards of several companies and not-for-profit organizations, such as the St. Peter and St. Paul Coptic Orthodox Church. He was Co-Chair of Réseau Capital from 2010 to 2013.
Mr. Guindi has received significant industry recognition, including top rankings in eight categories of the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory (including M&A, corporate finance, private equity, corporate mid-market, corporate commercial, technology, computer & IT law and biotechnology), and Lawyer of the Year honours in biotechnology from The Best Lawyers in Canada® 2017. He was recognized by IFLR 1000: The Guide to the World’s Leading Financial Law Firms, 2016-2017, in the area of investment funds, and by Chambers Canada: Canada’s Leading Lawyers for Business, 2016-2017, in the area of corporate/commercial (Québec) law. He was also named Montreal Technology Lawyer of the Year by The Best Lawyers in Canada® 2015.
Mr. Guindi was admitted to the Barreau du Quebec and the New York State Bar Association in 1990 and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association. He received the Advocatus Emeritus designation from the Barreau du Quebec.
A graduate of McGill University, Mr. Guindi has degrees in Civil Law (B.C.L.) and Common Law (LL.B.).
