Vijay Kanwar joined the BDC Board of Directors in June 2017.
Mr. Kanwar’s accomplishments as an entrepreneur, along with his participation on a number of high-profile boards, have allowed him to develop his financial management acumen, and to accumulate significant experience in forming and implementing strategic plans.
He is founder of KMH Cardiology and Diagnostic Centres, the largest provider of nuclear cardiology services in North America. Mr. Kanwar is also Founder and President of Lambardar Inc., a design and construction firm that specializes in medical facilities.
Mr. Kanwar currently serves as a director of York University. He is the Chair of the Advisory Committee on Senior Level Retention and Compensation of the Treasury Board of Canada and a member of the Schulich School of Business Advisory Board for the Health Industry Management Program. He previously served as Chairman of the board of directors of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and was a council member of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
A dedicated philanthropist and active member of the community, he sits on the board of directors of the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Foundation.
Mr. Kanwar received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for Community Service in 2012, the 2009 New Pioneer Award for Entrepreneurship and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for Health Services in Ontario in 2006. Vijay is proud to have grown his career and raised his family in Canada, and is gratified to live in a country where diversity is valued, nurtured and recognized as a strength.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Punjabi University, India, an MBA from the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto and a Masters in Business Law (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. He also holds the Corporate Director (ICD.D) designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
