Cathy Bennett

Cathy Bennett joined the BDC Board of Directors in May 2019.

Ms. Bennett brings to BDC’s Board of Directors more than 35 years of experience as an entrepreneur, business executive, and innovator in restaurant operations, virtual office services, real estate and commercial construction. In her previous role as managing partner of Bennett Restaurants, she owned and operated three of the top 10 restaurants in Atlantic Canada by sales volume. She is also the former majority joint venture partner of Rosewood Spa in St. John’s and the founder of The Business Suit(es), which leased traditional and virtual office space across Newfoundland & Labrador.

A seasoned corporate director, Ms. Bennett has served on private, public and non-profit boards in the mining, manufacturing, telecommunications, technology and energy sectors, including the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the St. John’s Board of Trade. She currently sits on the boards of SheEO, a non-profit supporting and financing female innovators, Vigilant Management, which offers project management services to the construction and infrastructure sector, Kraken Robotics Inc., a marine technology company engaged in design, development and marketing of advanced sensors for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles used in military and commercial applications, and Marathon Gold Corporation, a Toronto-based gold company advancing its 100%-owned Valentine Gold project located in the central region of Newfoundland & Labrador, one of the top mining jurisdictions in the world. She is the founding Board Chair of TaskForceNL, a not-for-profit social enterprise. She previously served as the Governor of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.

Ms. Bennett was a Member of the House of Assembly of Newfoundland & Labrador from 2014 to 2018 as well as the Minister of Finance and the Status of Women.
