Statement on 2026 Federal Budget measure regarding the proposed merger of BDC and EDC leading to the creation of a single federal development bank
MONTREAL – November 5, 2026 – The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) today released the following statement regarding the 2026 Federal Budget measure regarding the proposed merger of BDC and Export Development Canada (EDC).
“BDC welcomes the intention announced in the Government of Canada’s 2026 Budget to bring BDC and EDC together and to create a single federal development bank. We see a real opportunity to combine complementary strengths and expertise to better serve Canadian entrepreneurs.
The merger has not yet taken place and much remains to be defined. Today, BDC remains BDC. Files and transactions are moving forward, and we remain fully committed to our clients, partners and suppliers. Our mandate and governance remain unchanged at this stage, and our operations continue as usual.
BDC will be fully engaged in the work ahead. Our ambition is to make the entrepreneur journey simpler and more seamless, with easier access to the financing, capital and advice businesses need at every stage of growth.
Our focus, today and for the future, remains clear: we are united for Canadian entrepreneurs.”
