Make a splash during your interviews

Expert advice to stand out as an exceptional candidate.

1. Before the interview

  • Absorb all that is and all that makes up BDC. Browse our website, explore all online resources like articles and our social networks. Do not hesitate to contact employees to find out more about what is happening in the field.
  • Print out the job posting and make a list of relevant assets that work in your favor: academic background, work experience, technical skills, leadership, transferable talents, etc.
  • Open up! Fully inform the recruiter of your accommodation needs. Whether it is adapting the technology you use or creating an optimal interview environment, we want to help you showcase yourself and your skills.
Get a head start by preparing to answer the following questions:
  • Why do you want to work at BDC?
  • Why are you interested in this job?
  • What is your most proud achievement?
  • How do you react to difficult situations and how do you usually deal with the issues that come your way?
  • What are your career goals and aspirations in five years?
  • What skills do you want to learn or improve?
Prepare some questions to ask the interviewers:
  • Have I answered all your questions adequately?
  • What does the team structure look like?
  • When do you plan to make your decision?
  • How can I follow up in the coming weeks?

2. The day of the interview

  • Wear a professional attire.
  • Whether it is an in-person or virtual interview, be prepared in advance and put yourself in "interview mode" the moment you enter the building or connect to the interview.
  • It is normal to feel nervous, but adopt a positive attitude, do not interrupt your interviewer, listen carefully to questions and express yourself clearly by regularly reformulating what has just been asked ("If I understand correctly, you are looking for this skill for...").
  • Highlight your skills and clearly explain how they set you apart from other candidates and why they should allow you to get the job you want.

3. After the interview

  • Follow up as advised without being too insistent.
  • Be patient: Sometimes, the recruitment process takes longer than expected.

This should be avoided at all costs during the interview:

  • Chewing gum.
  • Forgetting to turn off your electronics.
  • Criticize your previous employers.
  • Neglect your body language.
  • Interrupt your interviewer.
  • Not being concise in your answers.
