Venture Capital Incentivized Programs

Our programs make Canada’s venture capital ecosystem stronger. We grow the venture capital market by connecting our general and limited partners with experts who can help them develop their skills and build their connections, and by managing programs on behalf of the Government of Canada.

Financial programs we manage

Our team manages incentivized government programs that leverage government funds alongside private-sector investment and expertise to generate a significant and sustainable impact on the Canadian innovation ecosystem.

Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI)

Now entering Stream 4, VCCI has injected more than $1.7 billion of private-sector and other capital into Canada’s VC marketplace to encourage the growth of Canadian companies and support thousands of middle-class jobs.

Venture Capital Action Plan (VCAP)

Since its launch in 2013, VCAP has raised over $1.4 billion, with more than $1 billion coming from pension funds, high-net-worth individuals, corporations, banks and the governments of Ontario and Quebec. For the latest on VCAP, visit Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s website.

Bridge Financing Program (BFP)

BDC Capital launched a $300 million Bridge Financing Program to support venture-backed start-ups affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was designed to deploy capital quickly via convertible notes, matching up to 100% of financing rounds raised through qualified investors. The program was a success and has helped more than 90 resilient companies.

Educational programs we partner with

We provide non-investment support and significantly subsidize programs to build a generation of leaders who will strengthen, elevate and build a sustainable VC industry in Canada.

GP Academy

Developed in consultation with the Kauffman Fellows Program, this first-of-its-kind offering helps general partners establish new business relationships and provides advanced training in operational and management issues.

FUNDamental Principals

Our invitation-only seminars focus on best practices in fund management and are delivered by industry experts whose insights into a broad range of operational and sector-related topics give Canada’s fund managers the up-to-date knowledge they need to succeed.
