Jean Bédard is Partner, Growth Equity Partners, in our Montreal office. Jean has close to 20 years of experience in venture capital investments, business financing and management, international investment syndication, M&As and tech scaleups.
Before joining BDC in July 2018, Jean was CEO of Recentis Advanced Materials, a private Canadian firm where he aided the profitable sale of the organization to a public European company. Before that, he was Investment Director at Solidarity Fund FTQ, which led him to found BDR Capital where he managed and exited the portfolio of early-stage companies from the Solidarity Fund FTQ. He has also acted as Vice President of Investments at Desjardins Venture Capital, a subsidiary of Desjardins Group, the leading cooperative financial group in Canada. As an investor and managing director, Jean managed portfolios ranging up to $250M in tech, IT and telecommunications. Over the years, he has developed strong ties within the Canadian investment and financing ecosystem. Jean was actively involved in several investments, including OZ Communications (acquired by Nokia), Miranda Technologies (IPO), Skywave Mobile Communications, Accedian Networks and Enerkem.
Over the course of his career, he has exited 17 companies and accompanied dozens in their growth journey. His passion is helping entrepreneurs translate smart ideas into successful companies and connecting innovative start-ups with knowledge-based stakeholders and investment opportunities.
