Karl Reckziegel was appointed Vice President, Funds and Co-Investments in 2017. In this role, Karl is head of BDC Capital’s Fund Investments and Co Investments initiatives.
BDC Capital’s Fund Investments team is Canada’s largest venture fund investor, with investments in close to 60 funds. The Co-Investments team works with general partners to support high-growth, world class and innovation-based companies, while also managing the legacy investments of the Diversified Portfolio and of GO Capital—a Quebec-based sidecar fund.
An engineer with over two decades of corporate finance experience, Karl is familiar with all aspects of debt and equity structures. He joined BDC’s Venture Capital team in 1992.
Prior to assuming his current responsibilities, Karl was Vice President, Operations & Strategy, BDC Capital, where he was responsible for all aspects of operational management and strategic planning for BDC Capital. He also served as Vice President, Operations and Performance Management, Venture Capital; Managing Director, BDC’s Special Situations team; and, Vice President, Virtual Banking. He also worked as Vice President, Financing and Consulting, Vancouver.
Before joining BDC, he held positions in engineering, technical sales and industrial marketing in the oil industry, and later served as a senior executive in an international trading company.
Karl holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of New Brunswick and an MBA with a major in Finance from Concordia University.
