Marie Salama is Assistant Vice President, Portfolio Management—Growth & Transition Capital at BDC. Based in Montreal, she supports GTC Directors and their portfolio clients in Quebec. Marie has over 30 years of experience in various types of financing solutions: Short-term, long-term, subordinated financing, quasi-equity and equity. Over the years, she has financed working capital for growth, MBO, MBI, leveraged buyouts, M&A, turnarounds, etc. She is a generalist with vast experience in many types of industries including manufacturing, retail, distribution, services, knowledge-based industries and information technology.

Having joined BDC in 1996, Marie has worked as Director, Subordinate Financing, where she managed and developed a portfolio of companies and carried out investments between $500,000 and $25 million. She also acted as Managing Director, Subordinate Financing, overseeing the Montreal team of Directors. Prior to that, she was Chief Auditor, Audit and Inspection, where she evaluated the working method efficiency of business centres at BDC. Earlier in her career, she held various management positions at CIBC as Manager, Client Services, overseeing a team of branch employees and the entire administrative operations of the branch before specializing in Commercial Financing. She also held various account manager roles where she managed a medium-sized mixed portfolio of companies with revenues between $5 and $100 million with a family business structure.

Marie holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from McGill University in Finance and International Business. She also participates as an observer on many of the Board of Directors and advisory committees of her client portfolio. She is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs navigate the challenges and opportunities they encounter while building a successful business.
