Zoltan Tompa is Managing Director, Cleantech Practice, at BDC, where he is responsible for leading investments and growth financing transactions, as well as managing the full investment lifecycle. With over 20 years of experience in technology development, product launch, sales and business development across a range of industries and company sizes, he is well situated to understand the unique needs and growth challenges of cleantech firms in the early commercialization phase.
Zoltan joined BDC in 2016 to help lead the design and implementation of the Cleantech Practice, working in tandem with a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders to develop an investment platform that addresses an unmet market need.
Prior to joining BDC, Zoltan spent over 10 years at Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), a $1-billion clean technology foundation created by the Government of Canada. As Director, Strategy and Market Alliances, he led SDTC’s four regional offices across the country, oversaw a suite of market acceleration programs that mobilized investments, established commercial partnerships and facilitated market access for SDTC portfolio companies. Previously, he served as Director, Funding Advisory, at SDTC, where he led deal flow, reviewed over one thousand investment opportunities and led over $350 million of investment in cleantech firms.
From 2003 to 2005, Zoltan gained extensive experience in financial services as a Product Manager for a $2B+ portfolio of Small Business credit solutions at CIBC. Prior to that, he was the first non-founding employee at Infotriever, a venture-backed SaaS start-up, where he helped land major early commercial contracts and VC investments and was a key contributor to growth as the company scaled to over 20 employees.
Zoltan received his Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queens University. He is driven to apply his experience in innovation and investment to help high-impact cleantech companies achieve scale and deliver global impact.
