Customs

Customs authorities (agencies) control the flow of goods in and out of their respective countries. These goods can include animals, vehicles, personal effects and hazardous items. Customs agencies are also generally responsible for collecting tariffs (import taxes) on goods.

The Canadian Border Service Agency (CBSA) is Canada’s customs agency.

More about customs

Customs agencies create annual lists of tariffs to be paid for every type of good imported into the country. The classification of goods sold internationally as well as applicable tariffs should be validated with the customs agencies of each country where they will be sold.

Check out the Canada Tariff Finder, a free tool that allows Canadian exporters to find the tariffs applicable to a specific good in a foreign market.
