What you need to know about our summer jobs
When do you start recruiting for summer jobs?

Our summer job postings go online in January. Students are usually hired for about four months, usually from May to August.

What are the typical assignments for students?

Students support business units and develop their competencies as they work with a variety of professionals (business developers, loan underwriters, advisory service specialists and various corporate sectors, such as IT, finance, human resources, etc.).

What are your most common hiring locations across Canada?

Vancouver (British Columbia), Calgary (Alberta), Toronto (Ontario) and Montreal (Quebec). Since we offer positions in other cities as well, you should check the job postings when they go online in January.

What are the typical academic backgrounds BDC is looking for?

Our employees usually have backgrounds in commerce or business administration (accounting, finance, etc.). Are you studying IT, marketing, communications, human resources, law or economics? We encourage you to check our job postings and apply for any position that fits your profile.

Do I need practical experience in my field of study to be hired?

Ideally, yes, but it’s not essential. This is actually the purpose of a student summer job: To provide work experience!

What do I need in order to apply?

You need to be a college or university student and to be able to confirm that you’ll be continuing your studies later that fall.

Can I submit my resume on paper?

No, everything has to be done online.

Do I need to be bilingual to get a summer job at BDC?

For certain locations and certain positions, candidates must be bilingual.

Can I apply for more than one position at a time?

We recommend that your read each job posting carefully and make sure your profile matches what we’re looking for before you apply. It’s also important to choose jobs that suit your academic profile, location, experience and interests.

Can a summer job at BDC lead to a full-time position?

Yes, absolutely, but it all depends on our business needs and the available positions when you graduate.

Can I take vacation time or a few days off during my summer job?

If you already have plans, be sure to mention them without delay during your first interview. In some cases, it’s possible to arrange for time off in advance.

Can I negotiate my summer job’s start and end dates?

Yes. There is some leeway in the start and end dates for our summer jobs. Be sure to discuss this during your first interview.
