We focus our investments in capital efficient and scalable businesses with global market and operations. Within Energy/Cleantech, we target materials and ICT (information and communication technology) innovation enabling technology companies.

Geoff J. Catherwood is a partner in the Energy/Cleantech Venture Fund. He joined BDC in 2001. He is a registered professional engineer who has 14 years of experience in industrial automation and process control. Prior to joining BDC, he worked for Bailey Canada and Asea Brown Boveri, two large multinational industrial process automation suppliers. Mr. Catherwood has diverse operational experience in the process automation industry, including field service, system commissioning, engineering, management and sales. He administers the E/CT portfolio in Western Canada and is active on the boards of several early-stage companies. He also volunteers in a number of programs promoting entrepreneurship, including New Ventures BC, an annual business plan competition.
Mr. Catherwood holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University. He has also completed the Canadian Securities Course. |

Mr. Lam is a partner in the Energy/Cleantech Venture Fund. Before joining BDC in 2003, Larry was an entrepreneur/founder, gaining over 18 years of operating experience primarily with early-stage semiconductor companies. He has held senior management roles in marketing, product development and R&D at Intelligent Photonics Control, SiCon Video, Symagery Microsystems and Semiconductor Insights. Prior to joining the E/CT Ventures group, Mr. Lam was an investment director at BDC Venture Capital in the areas of Energy, Environment, Electronics and Materials. And prior to this he was a director in BDC's Technology Seed Investments group, where he partnered with and helped entrepreneurs realize their vision.
Mr. Lam actively supports and promotes entrepreneurship through his volunteer work in his community. He holds an MBA from Queen's University and a B.A.Sc. (EE) from the University of Waterloo. |

Tony Van Bommel is a partner in the Energy/Cleantech Venture Fund in the Vancouver office. He has been with BDC Venture Capital since 2001. Prior to joining BDC, he spent four years as Senior Investment Manager with InNOVAcorp, a General Partner for the Nova Scotia First Fund, an early stage knowledge-based venture fund. For ten years prior to this, he worked as a lawyer and Partner in the business law firm Little & Wright in London, Ontario. Mr. Van Bommel has held multiple directorships in both public and private emerging growth companies across Canada.
Mr. Van Bommel earned the Dalhousie Governor General’s Gold Medal for the top graduate student chosen from all faculties at Dalhousie University and the gold medal from the Dalhousie University MBA program. He received his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Western Ontario where he won the Pitney Bowes Award for the top graduating Law Student in Ontario who combined academics, athletics and service to the community. He is a past Chairman of Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia and Volunteer of the year for that organization. |
