Neal Hill joined BDC Venture Capital in 2012 as Vice President, Fund Investments.

His main responsibilities are to develop BDC Venture Capital’s reputation as an investor of choice, expand BDC’s industry presence and develop sector knowledge, and identify and develop high-potential general partners (GPs).

Mr. Hill has more than 30 years of experience in technology management and marketing, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions in Canada and the U.S.

Before joining BDC, he held senior management and consulting positions in various sectors. Most notably, he was founder and Senior Managing Director of Great Northern Capital, Canada’s first attempt to create a growth-stage venture capital fund of substantial size focusing on emerging technology firms. Prior to this, he was Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, for Cognos Incorporated, the Ottawa-based $1 billion worldwide leader in business intelligence and performance management software, now a unit of IBM. In this role, he was responsible for mergers, acquisitions and strategic alliances, including the IBM alliance that led to its acquisition of Cognos.

He has also served on the Boards of a number of start-up companies.

Mr. Hill holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Physics and Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Tim April was appointed Managing Director, Fund Investments for BDC Venture Capital in 2008.

He is responsible for managing BDC's portfolio of funds and its investment strategy in Canada.

Mr. April has almost 20 years of experience in the high technology industry and 10 years as venture capitalist.

He has been with BDC since 2002. Prior to his current role, he was with BDC's Venture Capital direct investment group for five years, specializing primarily in the semiconductor and electronics sector, where he participated in the financing and management of numerous technology companies.

Before joining BDC, he held various positions in engineering, sales, business development and management with Servo Robot, Texas Instruments, LSI Logic Corp., LSI Europe, Broadcom Corp., and Multilink Technology Corp.

Mr. April holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Management Studies from McGill University.

Mr. Scutaru has over 18 years of experience in the private equity, aerospace and telecommunications industries in research and development, business and corporate development, finance and strategic planning. Prior to joining BDC, Mr. Scutaru held various technology and management positions notably with Nortel Networks' Wireless Division, Telesystem International Wireless, Centrale Recherche, Dassault Aviation and Aérospatiale. He is currently on the Board of Directors of several private Canadian companies.

Mr. Scutaru holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Physics from Ecole Centrale Paris, France a M.Sc. in Lasers from University of Paris XI, France, a M.Sc. in Nuclear Physics from University of Bucharest, Romania and an MBA from Queen's University, Kingston, Canada.
