Ahnee/Greetings to all students taking part in the E-Spirit 2007-2008 National Aboriginal Youth Business Plan Competition. It is amazing how fast time passes; another school year is upon us. I hope that each of you is looking forward with anticipation and excitement. It will be a time of learning, new friendships, fun and adventure. It will also be a time of hard work, studying and thoughtfulness.
We must all remember the seven sacred teachings of our Elders. Wisdom: common sense is practical wisdom and is found everywhere; in the words of the Elders and in the way the wind flows through the trees. Utilize the wisdom of those around you, your teachers, your mentors and your parents. Courage: be strong, walk your talk, live by your beliefs and work for the good of all and bring harm to none. Keep in mind the benefits that can be realized upon the completion of your project and how it will benefit your community. Honesty: show fairness in words and action, be genuine and virtuous and let honesty be your guide. Try your hardest and give 100% of yourself to be successful. Truth: speak with sincerity and walk with integrity. Remember you carry the hopes and dreams of all those that came before you. Love: has no conditions or borders and is for you to give, receive and share. Try and embrace the experiences you will have throughout this learning process. Humility: be humble and walk Mother Earth in unpretentious simplicity and modesty. You are a role model for the next generation. Respect: treat all as you wish to be treated. Everyone deserves the opportunity to walk in dignity. You are being given an opportunity to grow mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually through the learning process that has been presented to each of you.
As the Elder for the E-Spirit I am truly honoured to be able to provide guidance, counseling and my support to each and every one of you, to assist your dreams of realizing your potential. It is my vision to see you achieve success through your partnerships, teamwork and participation within your communities and in the urban centres.
Let us join our minds, hearts and hands as we start our journey through this exciting adventure.
