Elder Garry Robson
Garry Robson, an Ojibway from the Peguis First Nation, formerly the Aboriginal Awareness Consultant with the Province of Manitoba’s Aboriginal Education Directorate over the past 28 years. A member of the Turtle Clan, Garry presents and provides traditional cultural teachings and historical overview as they relate to present day. He provides workshops for students, teachers, administrators, parents, community agencies, First Nation agencies, police, and government departments within the province of Manitoba. Garry participates on a number of boards on behalf of Aboriginal people. Garry is also a poet and storyteller. Garry can speak about stories of traditional life of his people, the Clan System, Prophecies, the 7 Stages of life, Men’s roles, family, education (then and now), The Tipi, Treaties, and the Cradle Board to name a few.
Elder Florence Paynter
Florence Paynter is Ojibway from Sandy Bay First Nation and is a band member of the Norway House First Nation. Florence is a long time educator and has been a classroom teacher for several years. In the early 80’s she joined the Department of Education as a consultant for First Nations languages and for other educational developmental areas. During the last 10 years Florence was employed as a Coordinator of Research and Development for the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre where she managed several key projects. Florence is currently working with the Aboriginal House of the University of Manitoba as a resident Elder. Florence provides traditional teachings to groups, individuals and organizations.
