I have an importing and exporting business. How does one try to overcome the obstacles that one faces in a negative economical situation?
An economic recession does not change business fundamentals; it sharpens them and makes them more fundamental than ever. In good times even a bad business can do well. But recessions, or times of economic turbulence, have a way of shaking out the marginal or half-thought-out operations. That does not mean all opportunities are gone. Instead it means that businesses must focus their plans and operations. There is less room for error in a tougher atmosphere.
Today all businesses must be laser-focused on customer requirements. Those who understand their customers' needs and requirements, and who can deliver a product or service that meets those needs, will survive and perhaps thrive. Understand your target customers and their needs or problems. In the marketing world, it's called "understanding their pain."
